Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of our clients frequently asked questions but if we have missed anything or would like more information please get in touch

  • You may need permission from your local authority before replacing or upgrading your properties windows, doors, roof lanterns ect. Our items have been previously approved for countless properties but as approval is granted on a individually basis, therefore we would always advise our clients to seek approval first before proceeding with manufacture. 

  • As our products are all made on a one off basis we prefer to show people what we are currently working on in our workshop. This allows you to see up close our product quality throughout the workshop. Ideally this must be scheduled in advance.

  • This is not a service we offer but can aid with scale drawing and product information if required.

  • We do not offer an installation service but can provided details for installations companies who are independent from us but we do have standing working relationships with. 

  • Depending on the item, for instance a door or window we can give you a basic / provisional cost based on a few pieces of information;  A rough size of the "stone-to-stone" or opening size, the layout or design you are looking for (pictures can be useful) what type of glass you would like and if you would like a untreated, primed of factory painted option. 

  • We don't actively advertise for apprentices vacancies but you are more than welcome to fill out an application form on our vacancies page

  • Unfortunately at this time we have already selected our chosen causes and will continue with these sponsorships for the time being.

  • Heritage Double Glazing and Standard Double glazing are our most popular choices compared to single glazing. However Fineo vacuum glass is becoming more popular in recent years, although being more expensive its lengthy guarantee, excellent acoustic and energy values makes its worthwhile considering.

  • Unfortunately this is not something we will be offering for the foreseeable future.

  • Our clients tend to request: Redwood, Meranti, Sapele, American Oak and Accoya.

     We are not limited to these species of timber and can source others from our fsc and pefc accredited merchant suppliers and importers.

  • We don't sell bags of timber off cuts but we do sell our very own sawdust briquettes. These are usually a mix of redwood, meranti hardwood and on occasion American white oak . These are usually sold between October and December each year.

  • We feel its always best to ask the joiner / installer to take confirmation sizes, this was the items are manufactured to sizes that your installer feels comfortable with. When deemed necessary, we will meet with your installer on site and discuss manufacturing sizes.

  • Simple answer is Yes! We use Remmers Paint Systems which can be colour matched to a Ral number of your choice. 

  • Unfortunately Not our painting equipment has be configured for the Remmers painting systems and we prefer not change it.

  • ​We offer a 5 year guarantee on all of our manufactured products.

    Please note hardware, glass and paint are subject to their own manufacturing guarantee ranging from 2 - 15 years depending on your final specifications.

  • Yes we will happily advise and fit alternative ironmongery supplied buy our clients.

  • Yes but it is dependant on a few things, the timber has to be dry. It also has to be clear of any nails, screws or other foreign objects, as well as any insects. Depending on what the timber is treated with we may have to refuse to cut it. Please contact our office before bring any items to the workshop to be cut. 

  • Everything we make is on a made to order basis therefore we do not have any "stock" Items

  • If we have transport available, we will happily delivery items throughout Edinburgh either free of charge or for a small fee. Deliveries out with the Edinburgh area can be quoted upon request.  Please note deliveries have to be booked in advance and we only offer a kerb side delivery option, you must arrange for able bodied people to assistant in unloading the delivery van.
